First things first! I will start off with the gear section. I always see the stats and point distribution part first. I dont like that. this guide is dedicated to PVM, my sorc deals around 50K Lightning damage!
Helm - Griffons eye socketed with a 5-5 lightning facet, or if you are a poor hic a shako socketed with an UM rune will do the job. Griffons eye is best for PVP AND PVM. it will say you deal more damage with a shako but getting the -20 lightning resistance makes a HUGE differnce.
Weapons - Echuta orb socketed with a 5-5 lightning facet, with CTA on secondary (make sure you get a +3 Echuta).
Sheild - Spirit.
Gloves - Magefist or Frostburn. i personally prefer frostburn because i wear griffons eye which gives me 25% FCR. You lose the mana regenerate you get with magfist BUT frosties add 40% to maximum mana!. make sure you have a ton of mana the more mana you have the faster it will regenerate. it can surpass magefist. ill tell you about where to dump your stat points later.
Boots - Sandstorm Treks, or a GOOD MODDED pair of rare boots. Example, rare boots that diablo may drop ( RARE means they will be yellow in colour fyi). Look for % to cold, lightning, and fire resistance, good MF number 20%, atleast 20% faster run, etc. YES go for MF boots if you dont have any magic find you will deffintley not find any good gear!
Body Armor - Chains of Honor in Dusk shroud or Arcon plate (for the +65 to resistance).
Belt - Arachnid mesh spider belt.
Amulet - +3 Lightning skills ammy, or modded rare sorc ammy with +2 skills, FCR, mana regen, some MF, and some resistance, or Maras.
Rings - always good to have 1 Ravenfrost so you dont become frozen, and either an SOJ for more mana, or a FCR ring with resistance.
STAT POINT DISTRIBUTION we will be using mana sheild! it makes a huge difference!
Strength - enough to wear your gear
Dexterity - NOTHING
Vitality - 75% of points go in here!
Energy - 25% of points go in here! (aids in mana sheild and to increase max mana for faster mana regeration!)

Inventory, and how to play your Sorceress!
Make sure you have a SORC torch, and an Annihilus Small Charm, always try to get the best you can afford. I usually keep around 7 Lightning grand charms in my inventory i can deal up 50K lightning damage! its alwyas a good idea to add some 7% Magic Find Small Charms. They make a huge difernce in finding better items. try to get around 200 MF. Without any MF your going to be at this game for ages trying to find GG gear.
cast Frozen Amour, Mana sheild, then teleport with your merc to take off the Magic resistance from enemies with its infinity. Then go ANNIHILATE DIABLO AND BAAL FOR RARE GG ITEMS AND BECOME RICH IN THE WORLD OF DIABLO 2...
